I gape at the Oreo-thieving home invader.
His brooding face slips into a frown as the playfulness leaves his voice, “Unfortunately for you, I’m the other one of life’s certainties.”
Life’s certainties. Taxes and…what? Something…and taxes. There’s got to be a better saying than the one that comes to mind. Puppies and taxes. Or chocolate truffles and taxes, maybe.
Armed with caustic wit and “Resting Doll Face,” 24-year-old Quinn grapples her way through life selling used underwear online to keep a near-condemned roof over her head. She escaped her past once before, but when a home intruder arrives to escort her spirit to the hereafter, running isn’t an option.
Scheduled for a fatal brain aneurysm in eleven minutes, Quinn strikes a desperate deal with Milo, her assigned reaper. He agrees to postpone her death by using his accrued time off for an impromptu vacation among the living. Quinn, in exchange, must replace his retired partner when her nine-day extension is up.
Their contract guarantees Milo a trip to his hometown, forcing Quinn to wage war in the back seat of a Prius as they hitch a ride with Quinn’s ghost-hunting ex-boyfriend, Paul, and her self-proclaimed best friend, Lexa.
Counting down to her extinction through a cavalcade of haunted hotels and roadside attractions, Quinn has one goal for the dwindling remainder of her life: To torment the man who’s stolen her future.
Every once in awhile, a work comes along that grabs you around the heart and keeps you on the edge until the last page. Quinn Reaper is one of those.

His jaw would break knuckles in a fight, and some women might like the contrast between his denim-blue eyes and jet-black hair. His five o’clock shadow complements his full lips, and his face manages to be masculine without having the brow ridge of a caveman. He probably did okay with the ladies back in the eighteenth century. Or whenever he still had a pulse.”
Wow! I’m emotionally sated. I have never read a fresher, funnier book. Kellis’s delightful creation has restored my faith in reading, I know I’m going to want more of her! Recommending it to all my friends.
We can only hope this first novel is the start of a brilliant career by this new author whose voice is all her own. Quinn Reaper will make you laugh, irritate you, make you cry, and make you fall in love. Often all at the same time! The book is a road trip as four oddballs twine their destinies for better or worse. And almost all of them are actually alive!
Quinn Reaper made me laugh myself to tears multiple times and cry in my wine at least twice. Quinn is snarky, sarcastic, heartbreakingly flawed, and someone I’d love to drink tequila shots with in a dive bar. Her road trip from hell highlights the bizarre and beautiful moments that make life precious. There’s humor, heartbreak, and enough spice to make things interesting.
Holy cow, lady!! Quinn Reaper is brilliant. Truly. Wildly original with fabulous, well-crafted characters. Absolutely hilarious—I chuckled audibly three times on just the first (half) page. I closed the book (metaphorically speaking) with a feeling I only get from a small handful of the very finest stories, where the magic doesn’t immediately dissipate, where I sit for a few moments just absorbing the perfection and living with the characters. I have NEVER said that before about a manuscript. Heck, I don’t say it about many of my favorite published books.
A weighty read but leavened with outrageous acts and thoughts, humor, and a couple characters I would love to know...from a safe distance! A unique love story, a journey that will intrigue, entertain, and enrich the reader. Kellis is an author with immense talent and imagination.
Quinn is an irreverent, flawed (who of us isn’t?) young woman spending her life protecting her broken bits using her sardonic tongue and flouting all convention. Even as you’re laughing out loud, you know there’s more to her than meets the eye—a streetwise tenderness and a sentient intelligence.
